The body of a 51-year-old Minneapolis woman who had apparently crashed her motorcycle and died was found in Golden Valley by a jogger some hours later, the Star Tribune reports.
The motorcyclist was identified as Cheryl L. Kuntz. She and the motorcycle were found Saturday in the 3300 block of Glenwood Avenue, just east of Wirth Lake, the newspaper reports.
The cause of the crash was not immediately clear, the Star Tribune reported.
State safety officials are alarmed by the number of motorcycle fatalities this year. Minnesota officials last week noted that the state had 53 motorcycle deaths this year, and it had 55 in all of last year, according to state data.
A Star Tribune story in July noted that more than half the fatal crashes have involved people 45 or older.
The state is on pace for 68 motorcycle deaths for 2013, Minnesota safety officials say.
That would be a higher number than in recent years, although there was a spike in 2008, when there were 72 motorcycle fatalities in Minnesota, according to state statistics. The record high came in 1980, when there were 121 motorcycle fatalities, state data say.
