A judge in a child custody case wants the blog "Carver County Corruption" shut down after death threats appeared in the public comments. The blog's host, Lea Branken, is involved in the case and says she has no intention of shutting down the site.

Monticello nuclear plant shuts down

Xcel Energy says its Monticello nuclear power plant automatically shut down at 11:07 a.m. Tuesday, but officials aren't sure why and a cause is being investigated, the Pioneer Press reports. All plant safety systems were functioning, officials with the Minneapolis-based utility said. The shutdown posed no danger to the public or workers, Xcel officials said. The plant is not expected to be down long.

2 Twin Cities child-care providers where infants died shut down by state

Public records reveal that two child-care centers that failed to follow safe-sleep practices where infants died this year have been shut down by state regulators. A Carver County licensing inspector has also been found at fault for not following through on sanctions in one of the cases, which was discovered just days before an infant's death.

Two Minnesota nuclear reactors shut down with separate problems

At the Monticello plant a gasket needs repair and emergency generators are not working at one of the two reactors at Prairie Island. No radiation was released in either case. Xcel is buying electricity during the repairs, which should take a couple of days.

Judge orders settlement talks for Senate, Brodkorb

The state of Minnesota and former Republican Senate staffer Michael Brodkorb on Thursday were ordered into confidential settlement talks by U.S. Chief Magistrate Judge Arthur J. Boylan, the Star Tribune reports. The sessions are to begin Sept. 24. The judge asked both sides to submit confidential letters that summarize their settlement positions, and he put a gag order on both sides to prevent them from talking to the media, the newspaper says.
