Kidnapped toddler from Idaho found at MN campground; 5 people arrested

Five people were arrested after a kidnapped toddler from Idaho was found Sunday at a campground in Stearns County, Minnesota.

The Stearns County Sheriff's Office got a call around 9 p.m. Sunday about a group of people acting suspiciously at Birch Lakes State Campground near Melrose, with the caller noting their vehicles were covered with tarps, the St. Cloud Times reports.

The caller, who said the group was from Idaho, went online and found a report of a missing toddler and information that matched the group of people camping, KSTP says.

Officials investigated the campsite after discovering there was an active warrant for a 28-year-old Idaho man for second-degree kidnapping and child custody interference, reports note.

Deputies arrested the man on the warrant, along with four others who are suspected of aiding an offender. The suspects range in age from 18-54, WCCO says. The 16-month-old girl was also found at the campsite.

Police put out a request for the public's help locating the girl last Tuesday, Local 8 News reported, after the 28-year-old man, who was in physical custody of the toddler, failed to show up for a custody hearing, Idaho State Journal says.
