Kramarczuk's sausage shop is one of five restaurants in the country being honored with the James Beard American Classic Award this year, MPR reports.

The northeast Minneapolis staple won a James Beard Classic Award for their "quality food, local character, and lasting appeal."

Kramarczuk's was started by Ukranian refugees Wasyl and Anna Kramarczuk in 1954. Ownership was passed on to their son Orest.

People from all over the U.S. are drawn to the deli for sausages made using a 100-year-old technique that incorporates different cuts of meat and spices.

The sausages have also been wildly successful at Target Field.

The Star Tribune says previous Minnesota recipients include Al's Breakfast in Minneapolis in 2004 and the Pickwick in Duluth in 2007.

The James Beard Foundation Awards, the Oscars of the culinary world, released its 2013 semifinalists last week and 17 Minnesota restaurants and chefs made the cut.
