Lake Phalen holiday lights, once stranded in snow, arrive in St. Paul

Author:

The light displays headed for the annual Lake Phalen Christmas display have made it to town, after their transport was delayed by the huge snowstorm in New York state.

Now, organizers need lots of volunteers to help set them up in time for the first day of the Holiday Lights in the Park event, which is Tuesday, FOX 9 reports.

The two semi trucks full of display lights earmarked for the event were snowbound in upstate New York for a few days, the Pioneer Press reports.

Parts of New York were hit with a snowstorm of epic proportions this past week, with snowfall levels exceeded more than 7 feet in some places.

The lights were due to arrive Friday but arrived Saturday morning, about 24 hours behind schedule, organizers said on their Facebook page.

The lights event, organized by the St. Paul Police Foundation and the local chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association, is in its seventh year and is expected to feature more than 60 light displays.

Tickets for the driving tour of the light display cost $10 per vehicle, with proceeds going towards the Union Gospel Mission, the police foundation and St. Paul Parks Conservancy.

This year’s event, which will run until January 1, will feature several new LED light displays.
