Eighteen employees will lose their jobs as Duluth's Bayshore Health Center is turned over to a new company.

The Duluth News Tribune reports that Texas-based Paragon Healthcare Group took over operation from Ecumen on July 1.

The “operations transfer agreement” is behind the job elimination. Michelle Golden, Paragon’s chief operating officer, explained that the positions were cut because “we need to staff according to our model,” she said. “Every company has their own way.”

Bayshore now has 200 employees, mostly nursing assistants. Bayshore provides 24 hour care, physical therapy and rehabilitation services, senior and young-adult care and treatment for people with memory loss, traumatic brain injuries or chronic illness.
