Le Cordon Bleu will be shutting the doors to all 16 culinary campuses across the country, including one in Mendona Heights.
The culinary schools announced Wednesday that they plan to close September 2017, WCCO reports. And they won't be accepting any new students after their January 2016 classes begin, according to KARE 11.
Todd Nelson, president and CEO of Career Education, which operates the schools, tells KARE 11 the schools are closing because of costs.
"New federal regulations make it difficult to project the future for career schools that have higher operating costs, such as culinary schools that require expensive commercial kitchens and ongoing food costs."
Career Education announced in May that they were trying to sell the schools, according to the Pioneer Press. The paper says the company had potential buyers, but they fell through.
Le Cordon Bleu says they opened the doors to their first school in Paris in 1895. That's where Julia Child went. Le Cordon Bleu says their courses spread to the United States in 1998.
The culinary school says they currently have 30 campuses. The shutdown only applies to schools in North America, according to the Los Angeles Times.
According to WCCO, there will only be three culinary schools left in the state after Le Cordon Bleu closes: the Art Institute of Minnesota, St. Paul College and Hennepin Technical College.
