Playboi Carti brought 2017's hottest mixtape track and 1994's hottest T-shirt to late-night television.
Last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Playboi Carti brought his catchy mixtape jam "Magnolia" to life on national television. Carti's interesting style has always been a tough nut to crack on record, but seeing him move the Los Angeles studio audience live makes it much easier to draw the lineage of his style back to the same party-rocking done by hip-hop's pioneers. It's great to see that tradition continue, especially considering Carti was literally born the day that 2Pac died.
Just about the only thing fresher than hearing this arrangement of the "Magnolia" beat is Carti's noteworthy Natural Born Killers T-shirt. The 1994 film also predates Carti's existence on this planet, but we're always happy to see a cooler-than-cool Woody Harrelson mug smirking at us through the small screen.
Carti's self-titled mixtape, released in conjunction with A$AP Mob, is available here. It dropped the same day as Kendrick Lamar's DAMN., but there's no time like the present to catch up.
- 2 Chainz hit Dubai for his new "Sleep When U Die" video.
- Gucci Mane is joined by Chris Brown for the wisely titled "Tone It Down."
- Congrats to TDE's SZA whose CTRL album debuts at 3 on Billboard this week.
- Styles P might be the busiest MC of 2017, popping up on three new remixes in one day.
