It's that time of the year when all eyes are on Austin's SXSW Music Festival, and already the star of the whole shebang has been Tinashe with her new single "Flame."
With a set that's already been described as stealing-the-show for all of SXSW, the high point was the premiere of "Flame," which was released at midnight following her performance at Sony's Lost in Music showcase. Right now could be Tinashe's moment, so make sure you hear "Flame" immediately.
Produced by BloodPop (Justin Bieber's "Sorry") and Stargate (Rihanna's "Don't Stop the Music") the track features a synth-heavy sound without being disconnected or airy, and her lush vocals add a genuine sheen. "Flame" feels alive like a romantic pop song of a bygone era, while remaining on the cutting edge of 2017.
"Flame" is said to be off of Tinashe's forthcoming album Joyride, which according to the singer is the happier, more joyous follow-up to last year's more brooding Nightride mixtape.
