Alana Beard made the shot that won Game 1 of the WNBA Finals for the Los Angeles Sparks over Maya Moore and the Lynx, 78-76.

Game 1 of the WNBA Finals was nail biter. But in the end the Minnesota Lynx were bitten by an Alana Beard jumper from the corner as time expired, giving the Los Angeles Sparks a 78-76 victory.

The best-of-five series continues Tuesday night with Game 2, also at Target Center.

In a game that was close throughout, Maya Moore went coast to coast to tie the score with 24 seconds left.

As the Sparks set up for the final shot, Minnesota's defense packed in on Candace Parker and league MVP Nneka Ogwumike, leaving Beard open in the corner.

A review by the officials confirmed that Beard's shot beat the buzzer and ruled it a 2-point shot, rather than a three.

Another angle:

Minnesota was led by three players with 18 points apiece: Lindsay Whalen, Sylvia Fowles, and Maya Moore.

Fowles also grabbed 13 rebounds. Moore scored all of her points in the second half.

The Lynx and Sparks finished the regular season with the two best records in the WNBA. In all three of their regular season matchups – and again in Sunday's Game 1 – the road team was the winner.

The Lynx will try to break that pattern and even the series Tuesday before the teams head to L.A. for Game 3.
