Lynx star Augustus using national platform to fight marriage amendment

WNBA star Seimone Augustus has added her voice to those opposed to a Minnesota ballot measure that would ban same-sex marriage, and she's becoming a more vocal high-profile supporter of equal rights for gays and lesbians, the Associated Press reports. The Lynx guard is currently playing in the WNBA finals and planning a wedding of her own to long-time partner LaTaya Varner.

With Seimone Augustus' adopted home state of Minnesota considering a constitutional amendment that would ban same-sex marriage, the WNBA star is now becoming a more vocal supporter of equal rights for gays and lesbians, the Associated Press reports. The high-profile Lynx guard, an Olympic gold medalist and WNBA champion, is currently playing in another WNBA finals and planning a wedding of her own to long-time partner LaTaya Varner.

Augustus spoke at some length in August with ESPN about her sexuality and her upcoming nuptials.

The Louisiana native came out earlier this year in an article in The Advocate.
