I-35W lanes reopen hours after gas leak, bridge still closed

Northbound and southbound lanes on Interstate 35W are moving again after a gas leak shut down the span of road between Exit 7B in Bloomington and Exit 9A-B in Richfield, the Minnesota Department of Transportation says.

According to Lt. Tiffani Nielson with the Minnesota State Patrol, a semi hit the 86th Street Bridge and ruptured a natural gasoline.

It was hauling a piece of construction equipment that hit the underside of the bridge, KSTP reports.

Around 1:15 p.m., the roads had closed in both directions.

The Bloomington Fire Department posted to Twitter at 2 p.m. that the gas leak had been secured and shut off. Northbound lanes reopened, but the southbound lanes remained shut down for several more hours.

CenterPoint Energy crews told Kare 11 the bridge may be closed until Monday.
