Byron David Smith, 64, who is charged in the fatal shootings of two teenagers in his Little Falls-area home on Thanksgiving Day, had a surveillance system that recorded video of the teens breaking into his home, the St. Cloud Times reports.
There's also an audio recording of the shootings – Smith had an audio recorder running during the break-in, the newspaper reports.
The incident has been controversial, prompting haunting questions in Little Falls, the Star Tribune recently reported. Was Smith just protecting his home or was it cold-blooded murder?
The case also has become a lightning rod for passionate reactions, Pioneer Press columnist Ruben Rosario says. He shares just some of the feedback from readers he got to a recent column he wrote about the killings.
