Woman found dead in White Bear Lake garage, man arrested

One man is in custody after a the body of a St. Paul woman was found in a White Bear Lake garage Monday afternoon.

The Pioneer Press reports officers found 32-year-old Manya Jewel Johnson dead in the 2200 block of 8th Street after a concerned party called police.

Later that day, investigators arrested 34-year-old Steven Roger Johnson at his home in St. Paul. The man was booked into the Ramsey County Jail on suspicion of murder, according to FOX9.

Police told FOX9 that there's no indication that any acts of violence took place in White Bear Lake. Police believe she was killed in St. Paul, KSTP reports.

No information was released about how the woman was killed or how long she was dead.

The Pioneer Press reports the two were married, but police will only say they had a "significant" relationship.

According to an interview with a neighbor in White Bear Lake, the suspect claimed his wife died after slipping in the shower and he intended to keep her body in a portable storage unit.

Johnson was released from prison in 2008 after serving time for aiding and abetting first-degree criminal sexual conduct in Anoka County. He was on intensive-supervised release that was set to expire in November.

The Star Tribune reports Johnson could be charged Tuesday.
