A Minneapolis man faces criminal charges after posing as a personal care attendant for a vulnerable woman, who he allegedly had sex with on several occasions.
WCCO reports 42-year-old Corey Gordon met the victim, 32-year-old woman from Bloomington, at the Mall of America last October. The woman suffers from brain damage stemming from a disease that caused her to have multiple miniature strokes.
The woman's mother told investigators her daughter has the cognitive and emotional ability of a third- or fourth-grader. She also uses a walker and wears leg braces and hearing aids.
The victim's mother was also at the mall with her daughter the day she met Gordon. According to the complaint, the woman's mother noticed Gordon was reading about the victim's condition on his iPad as he sat beside her. The victim said the two exchanged phone numbers and that they were friends.
After discovering inappropriate text messages between the two, the victim's mother told Gordon to stay away from her daughter.
On May 24, the mother decided to drive her daughter to therapy at the Courage Center because a Metro Mobility bus was not scheduled. A staff member told her that her daughter's personal care attendant (PCA) was waiting, which was concerning, considering the victim didn't have a PCA.
The PCA that the staff member was referring to was Gordon.
The mother learned that Gordon assisted her daughter in changing rooms several times at the Courage Center even though the victim knew how to dress herself.
The victim told investigators that over the course of five months, she was having sex with Gordon at the Courage Center and at her home. She said Gordon told her to keep their relationship a secret.
Gordon is charged with third-degree sexual assault. KSTP has a copy of the criminal complaint on their website.
