A one-punch fight outside a resort bar on Mille Lacs Lake was fatal to one Twin Cities-area man, while another faces charges of manslaughter and assault.

According to a criminal complaint David Stay, 44, of Brooklyn Park told a Mille Lacs County sheriff's deputy he knocked out David Taute, 46, of Prior Lake a little after 1 a.m. Saturday at Hunter's Point Resort, the Mille Lacs County Times reports.

The Times says Stay reportedly told investigators he threw the punch because he was being pushed but he was not sure what the confrontation was about.

The Star Tribune says the deputy reported that Stay, who was staying at the resort, smelled of alcohol but did not appear to be intoxicated.

Sheriff Brent Lindgren told the newspaper he did not know the relationship between the men but believed they knew each other before the confrontation.

FOX 9 reports surveillance video showed the fatal punch but shed no light on what led to the fight. Taute was flown to North Memorial Medical Center where he died later Saturday morning and Stay was arrested at 6:05 a.m., the station says.

David Taute

An obituary of Taute (right) posted by the Cremation Society of Minnesota says "Super Dave" was passionate about fishing and hunting and had a larger than life personality with a humor that was second to none.

His survivors include a son, a fiancé, and his parents, the obituary says.

A celebration of his life will be held Friday evening at the Cremation Society in Edina.
