Man dead after double shooting in Pine Co.

The Pine County Sheriff says a man is dead and a woman is in serious condition after a double shooting in rural Pine County Wednesday night, WCCO reports.

Around 9:15 p.m., officers responded to the 29000 block of Sunny Hill Road. A 911 caller told police she received a text message from a woman at the home that said she'd been shot by her ex-husband and he was still at the home.

When sheriff's deputies arrived, they saw a man come from inside the home to the front deck and ordered him to step away from the house. FOX9 says the man went back inside and turned off the lights.

The Associated Press reports a SWAT team entered the house after a brief standoff to find the woman barricaded in the bathroom with a gunshot wound to the chest.

She was rushed to the hospital and is currently in serious condition at St Mary’s Hospital in Duluth, according to WDIO.

The man was found holding a gun to his head. Negotiators spent two hours trying to convince the man to surrender, but he eventually shot himself and died at the scene.

WDIO reports the ex-husband has been involved in domestic-related calls to police in the past.

The identities of the victims have not been released.
