A 47-year-old southeast Minnesota man was killed when he was hit by shrapnel at a bachelor/bachelorette party, the Post Bulletin reports.
Jeffrey Taylor, of Utica, which is about 25 miles west of Rochester, was at a party Saturday night on a property near Arendahl in Fillmore County, where some of the attendees were shooting at "explosive targets" for fun, Fillmore County Sheriff Daryl Jensen told the newspaper.
Taylor was among those watching when a shot was fired at a target and Taylor was accidentally hit in the abdomen by flying shrapnel. He was driven to a site nearby, where an ambulance and medical flight helicopter were waiting, but he was pronounced dead at that location, the newspaper reported.
Investigators are still probing the incident and a county attorney is expected to review the case, Jepsen said. An autopsy was to have been performed on Sunday, the Winona Daily News reported.
