A mad dash across Interstate 35 in Minneapolis killed a man fleeing from the cops Saturday morning, according to a statement from police.

The department's news release says the 25-year-old was one of three people suspected in the theft of a car near Lake Street East and 16th Avenue South, which is roughly in the Midtown area of Minneapolis.

They had all ditched the vehicle after it crashed during a high-speed pursuit around 3:30 a.m., and though officers were able to grab two of them, the third made it about halfway across I-35W before being struck by a car, police say. He had just jumped the median onto the southbound lanes.

The unidentified suspect later died at Hennepin County Medical Center.

The two survivors, a 28-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman, were arrested and are now facing multiple charges related to car theft. Authorities say the man who died had an outstanding felony arrest warrant.

The incident is being investigated now. It's the second deadly police-involved confrontation to occur in Minnesota on New Year's Eve. South of Minneapolis in Mankato, a suspect died during an "altercation" with a police officer at a local hotel early Saturday morning.

The officer was hurt during the incident, but was soon released from the hospital.
