Man found beaten to death in south Minneapolis, 1 person arrested

A man has died after an apparent beating during a party in south Minneapolis. Another man has been arrested in connection to the incident.

Minneapolis police said in a news release officers were called to an apartment in the 1800 block of 5th Avenue South just before 6 a.m. Tuesday to reports of an "adult male who was in medical distress."

Upon arriving, first responders found the man had died, with police arresting another man after interviewing people at the scene.

Police spokesman John Elder told KARE 11 the man did not live at the apartment, but was there for a party that "lasted into morning."

He also told the Star Tribune there were "no obvious signs of a weapon being used," adding it may be that the victim died of blunt-force trauma.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the identity of the victim, along with the cause of death, at a later time.

Anyone with information about the case should text the anonymous tipline at 847 411, entering MPD and the tip, or call the tipline at 612-692-8477.
