Man found dead in fish house during Eelpout Festival

The 21 year old was found unresponsive on Leech Lake.

A 21-year-old man was found dead in a fish house during the International Eelpout Festival in northern Minnesota.

The Cass County Sheriff's Office confirmed on Thursday that the victim was found unresponsive on Leech Lake just before 9 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, the last day of the ice fishing.

He was taken to the Park Rapids Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

His identity has not yet been released nor was the location of the fish house. An autopsy is pending with the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office.

The Pioneer Press notes that law enforcement has not connected his death to the festival, which is held every year on Walker Bay, Leech Lake.

It attracts more than 10,000 people to the lake over a four-day period. This year's event ran from Feb. 22-25.
