Student injured in fall from balcony at U of M fraternity house

A University of Minnesota student was taken to the hospital after a fall from a balcony at the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity house adjacent to the university campus and blocks from TCF Bank Stadium.

A KSTP employee was driving past the University Avenue house on Fraternity Row on Saturday afternoon when he witnessed the man fall from the second story. He took several pictures at the scene.

"At first I thought it was one of those bodies that they do in movie stunts, but that looked too real," Mike Brannen said.

The Minnesota Daily reports the man was taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center. A fire department spokesman reported him "alert and oriented" when the ambulance and medics arrived.

A statement from the university said that the University's Office for Student Affairs "...reached out to the student's family and to members of the University's fraternity and sorority communities to offer support. We will continue to work closely with our fraternities and sororities and their members to foster an environment that is safe for our students and visitors."

WCCO recalled that two weeks ago, 19 year old woman who was visiting campus died when she fell from a 6th floor window at Yudof Resident Hall.
