Man shot dead in downtown Minneapolis, city's first homicide of 2017

Several shootings have been reported in downtown Minneapolis this weekend, and one of them was fatal.

Minneapolis registered its first homicide of 2017 on a weekend in which a rash of shootings were reported downtown.

Minneapolis police confirmed that a man was killed in a double shooting at 2:19 a.m. on the 300 block of 3rd Avenue North, in the city's Warehouse District.

A woman was also shot in the incident and was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center with a non-life threatening injury.

No arrests have been made as of yet, with the shooting happening in an area with several bars and after closing time.

Police were interviewing witnesses at the scene and have been checking for surveillance footage at local businesses.

About 24 hours earlier, three people were wounded in another shooting downtown, which happened at the intersection of 3rd St. N and 1st Avenue.

One man is still in a critical condition from the incident, with a woman receiving a non-life threatening gunshot wound and another man receiving a graze wound.

The final numbers for 2016 homicides have not yet been released by Minneapolis police, but at the end of November there had been 37 confirmed homicides in the city, which was down on the 47 reported during the same period in 2015.
