Chris Burd, 27, of Cottage Grove, has been learning a lot about his in-laws. But it took an old photograph for him to realize that he had sat on his father-in-law's lap 13 years earlier as a child visiting a shopping mall santa.

The image shows him at age 13 with his 3-year-old sister on Santa's lap at Maplewood Mall in Maplewood.

It was a bit "creepy," he says in this ABC News blog.

The father-in-law santa is having some fun with it.

"It was fun to tease my future son-in-law about sitting in his father-in-law's lap. And I think I probably made up a couple of stories about what he wanted for Christmas," Elmer Abbas said.

Police believe a man killed his wife and then turned the gun on himself Thursday in Cottage Grove. He later died. Witnesses say the man fired several shots as he chased the woman through the parking lot of a strip mall. The woman had feared he might harm her, and a divorce was pending, investigators say. Her husband left a note about financial and relationship problems. The young couple had two sons, 3 years old and 5 months old.
