The man shot and killed by a police officer during a struggle Sunday afternoon has been identified.

The Midwest Medical Examiners' Office said Monday the man killed was 49-year-old Luverne Roy Christensen, according to an email release from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. He died from a gunshot wound.

Christensen was killed during the incident on the 500 block of Harmony Lane, according to FOX 9.

Police responded shortly after 4 p.m. to a report of a dispute at that location, when a struggle ensued between a male suspect and one of the officers, KEYC reports.

Shots were fired and the officer was wounded in the leg. Police returned fire and fatally shot the suspect, according to KEYC.

As KSTP notes, authorities haven't said whether Christensen was armed at the time.

The officer who was injured has been released from the hospital and is recovering at home, the Litchfield Independent Review writes.

The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating, and is currently conducting interviews with witnesses and those involved with the incident, according to the news release.
