Man shot in the stomach in Dinkytown near U of M campus

Minneapolis police are investigating an overnight shooting near to the Target Express store in the student area of Dinkytown.

KSTP reports that officers responded to reports that a man had been shot in the stomach at around 12:45 a.m. Monday on 5th St. SE and 14th Ave SE, not far from the University of Minnesota campus.

According to FOX 9, the man was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center with a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

Police are investigating, and at this time no arrests have been made, the TV station notes.

Crime figures for Minneapolis' 2nd Precinct, which covers the northeast of the city including the area around the U, show that aggravated assaults have increased so far in 2015, with 54 reported incidents as of May 18, compared to 40 during the same period last year.
