It's May 19 and it's chilly enough that there's a frost advisory

Because Minnesota.

We live in Minnesota, so of course this would happen.

It's 12 days from June, the area just got hit with some heavy rain and storms. But Friday morning there are counties in Minnesota dealing with a frost advisory because it's so chilly.

The Weather Service says temps dipping down to 32 degrees – yes, literally freezing – are possible.

This is in effect until 8 a.m. for some counties just north of the Twin Cities metro: Morrison, Mille Lacs, Kanabec, Isanti and Chisago.

Let's look at Mora, for a second, in Kanabec County. The average low for Mora on May 19 every year is 44 degrees, National Weather Service records show. So 32 degrees overnight and Friday morning is well under that.

It's not quite Mora's record low for May 19 though: 20 degrees, set in 2000.

There's also a frost advisory for the northwest corner of Minnesota in effect until 8 a.m. Temps there could fall to 30 degrees with "widespread frost" in more rural areas. It's all the blue in this map. (And our apologies to North Dakota for our complaining.)

Is this as bad as mid-January when it doesn't get above zero degrees? No.

But maybe grab a hat and jacket before you head outside.
