Mayo clarifies name change for 2 Rochester hosptials

Mayo Clinic announced in March that its Saint Marys and Methodist hospitals in Rochester, Minn., will legally merge into a single licensed facility called, Mayo Clinic Hospital, on Jan. 1, 2014.

The Rochester Post Bulletin reports the medical giant will still have two distinct hospital campuses -- the Saint Marys Campus and the Methodist Campus.

"The new legal name will become Mayo Clinic Hospital — Rochester," Mayo spokesman Bryan Anderson told the newspaper. "The Methodist Campus and Saint Marys Campus names incorporate the heritage of each facility and will be used, as appropriate, on signage and patient itineraries."

"The single licensed hospital will better reflect Mayo's integrated hospital practice, ensure accurate reporting of data, and reinforce Mayo's ability to prove the value of its care. An unwavering commitment to the founders' values will remain," Anderson added, according to KTTC.

Mayo is moving forward with its ambitious multibillion expansion plans with hopes of becoming a destination medical center.
