MetaCon 2012 runs through Sunday in Twin Cities

Organizers of the three-day event, that wraps up on Sunday, are expecting more than two thousand pop culture fans to spend part of their Labor Day weekend at Minnesota's first annual comic and sci-fi convention in Bloomington. Nicholas Brendon, best known for his role on all seven seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and several Power Ranger stars are among the featured guests to attend the event.

Organizers of the three-day MetaCon event, which wraps up Sunday, are expecting more than 2,000 pop culture fans to spend part of their Labor Day weekend at Minnesota's first annual comic and sci-fi convention in Bloomington, Examiner.com reports.

Nicholas Brendon, best known for his role on all seven seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and several Power Ranger stars are among the featured guests to attend the Minnesota event.

MetaCon organizers are already planning a bigger convention next year at a hotel in Minneapolis.

State DWI crackdown kicks off Friday, runs through Labor Day

State officials aren't waiting until Labor Day weekend to encourage people to plan for a sober ride if they are drinking. The Minnesota Department of Public Safety said it will kick off its "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign Friday, which will run through Labor Day. The department said Thursday that 68 percent of fatal accidents last year involved drivers who had blood alcohol levels of at least .16 -- twice the legal limit for driving.

SPCO cancels concerts for 2012

Survey: More Twin Cities employers plan to hire in 2012

A new employment survey out Monday has some good news. Fifteen percent of 140 companies surveyed said they plan to hire more workers next year. That's up from about 12 percent earlier. Eight percent of employers surveyed said they plan to trim their workforce.

2012 makes the top ten list of Twin Cities' warmest Januarys
