Mills Fleet Farm chief exec explores possible bid for Congress

The chief executive officer of Brainerd-based Mills Fleet Farm is considering the possibility of challenging Rep. Rick Nolan, D-Minn., next year, Brainerd Dispatch reports.

Stewart Mills III of Nisswa wouldn't confirm or deny his interest in Minnesota’s 8th Congressional District.

“They’re barking up the right tree,” Mills told the newspaper. “I’m not ready quite yet to go on the record but in the near future I will have a more formal announcement."

Mills gained attention for an online video he posted on YouTube opposing Nolan’s calls for a new ban on assault rifles.

The Real Capitol View website noted an official announcement about his intentions to run could take place in July. Mills is reportedly working to find a replacement to cover his day-to-day responsibilities at Fleet Farm.

Congressman Nolan beat one-term Republican Rep. Chip Cravaack by nine points in 2012.
