Mills Fleet Farm Vice President Stewart Mills III, grandson of the retail chain's founder, formally announced Wednesday a run against Democratic U.S. Rep. Rick Nolan in the 8th District next year, MinnPost reports.

The Associated Press says Mills, 41, of Nisswa planned to file fundraising paperwork Wednesday and will file candidate papers next month, according to the Star Tribune.

Earlier this year, the Republican executive gained attention for an online video he posted on YouTube opposing Nolan's call for a ban on assault rifles.

Mills said if elected, he would defend the Second Amendment, promote market-based health care and work to lift business regulations, the Star Tribune reported. He also opposes abortion.

MinnPost says most political prognosticators have considered Nolan a heavy favorite to hold the seat next year. In 2012, Nolan defeated GOP incumbent Rep. Chip Cravaack by 9 points.

Mills is making two campaign stops Wednesday, touring London Road Rentals in Duluth and Mills Fleet Farm construction site in Cambridge.
