Minn. company gets break in battle over birth control mandate

The owner of American Manufacturing Company in central Minnesota has received a preliminary injunction protecting him from a new federal requirement to provide contraception coverage to his employees, the St. Cloud Times reports.

Owner Greg Hall is a Roman Catholic deacon who says his religious beliefs don't allow him to offer health insurance that covers contraception, sterilization and abortion drugs. He is suing the government over the federal mandates.

“He was conflicted with owning a company that would provide the types of insurance that he finds morally offensive and objectionable,” his attorney told the newspaper.

The Affordable Care Act requires employers to provide health insurance that includes contraception coverage or risk penalties.
