A same-sex couple from Minneapolis and their twin boys have been invited to participate in the annual easter egg hunt in the nation's big backyard.

KSTP reports each year, President Barack Obama reserves tickets to the White House Easter celebration for two-mom and two-dad families.

Dads Paul and James have been teaching their 4-year-olds, Emmet and Gabriel, the importance of the visit.

"We've been practicing who President Obama is and why he's important to our family and why he is important for all of us," said father Paul Melchert.

This week, the U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments that could ultimately chart the future of gay marriage in this country.

The high court is considering two cases that challenge the Defense of Marriage Act and California's ban on gay marriage. The court is not expected to rule on either case until June, Reuters reported.

In Minnesota, a bill that would legalize gay marriage is making its way through the Legislature.
