The Minnesota State Patrol says it has impounded a car in Koochiching County with an unusual alternative fuel source. A trooper spokesperson says the driver of a rusted out Ford Pinto had a gas can on the front seat with a hose that ran out the passenger window, around the front and under the hood, which was "rigged up to the engine."

State Patrol: No fatalities overnight

The State Patrol reports that there were 88 crashes and 16 traffic-related injuries around Minnesota overnight, but no fatalities. This is the third consecutive year that there have not been any fatalities on New Year's Eve in Minnesota.
