Minneapolis doughnut shop named one of nation's best

A Minnesota doughnut shop known for its unique take on the fried dough breakfast dessert has been named one of the nation's best.

Thrillist, a website that dubs itself a men's digital lifestyle brand, named Minneapolis' Glam Doll Donuts as one of the 21 best doughnut shops in the country.

Thrillist, which didn't rank the doughnut shops, says Glam Doll Donuts "perfectly balances the classics with whimsical modernist desserts."

Glam Doll Donuts opened in 2013 and quickly became a favorite, ranking among the best doughnut shops both locally and nationally. The shop's website says it makes all of its doughs, fillings and toppings from scratch and works to create "mind blowing donut flavors that are both daring and delicious."

Thrillist says skeptics can enjoy fritters and Long Johns, while the more adventurous will "fall in love with Calendar Girl," which is topped with salted caramel and chocolate, and the Chart Topper, a peanut butter and Sriracha doughnut, "which finally answers the question of what it would taste like to make out with Jimmy Carter after dinner at a Thai place."

Glam Doll Donuts also made a 2013 Thrillist list of best doughnuts in Minneapolis.

The doughnut shop was named by Huffington Post as one of its favorite doughnut shops. Glam Doll Dounuts was also named to City Pages Best of the Twin Cities list for the last two years.
