Minneapolis gives up on trying to collect 'Sexpo' sex convention debt

The Minneapolis City Council voted Friday to write off about $207,000 in debts, largely owed to the convention center, deemed as simply uncollectible. Two of the unpaid invoices are from a pair of sex conventions in 2006. The controversial "Sex and So Much More" event brought porn star Jenna Jameson, wet T-shirt contests and sex toys to the convention center.

Minneapolis is just one step away from renovating the 32 bathrooms at the city’s convention center. Most have not been updated since the late 1980s or early 1990s. The Star Tribune reports upgrades will include all new tile, flooring, toilets, plumbing, counter tops, sinks, faucets, mirrors and lighting. Delegates did pass resolutions opposing the voter ID measure and the marriage amendment that would ban same-sex marriage in Minnesota. Voters will cast their ballots in November.
