City development staff recommended the rezoning be approved, but Council Member Meg Tuthill, who represents the proposed south Minneapolis location, says she doesn't believe in rezoning for one business.

The Minneapolis Planning Commission has unanimously approved the plans for a new 14,000-square-foot store at 27th Street and Lyndale Avenue. If the City Council approves the project next month, construction could begin this fall and the store could open in May or June next year. This would be the sixth Trader Joe’s in the metro area.
