Murray’s Restaurant closing for renovations in August

The downtown Minneapolis restaurant and cocktail lounge will close July 30 and reopen on Sept. 4. Co-owner Tim Murray told the Downtown Journal furniture, carpet and drapes will all be updated during the five-week renovation. The project will also focus on adding more seats by improving the bar and restaurant layout. Murray's Restaurant opened in 1946.

The 66-year-old restaurant, which was last remodeled in 1984, includes a new bar and lounge area that is "designed as a more casual, energetic zone."

Man dies in Minneapolis house fire trying to save his roommates

KARE 11 reports the 25-year-old was the first to discover the blaze and was waking others up early Wednesday morning. Firefighters found him unresponsive on the second floor. A woman was rescued from the third floor and two other residents made it out safely on their own.

Minneapolis Police Chief calling it quits

Chief Tim Dolan has notified Mayor R.T. Rybak that he will not seek a third term. His current contract expires in January of 2013. Dolan has been the city's Police Chief since 2006 and joined the department in 1983 after working as a deputy for the Hennepin County Sheriff's Department.
