Pat Murray became the patriarch of Murray's Steakhouse in 1960. After serving decades of silver butterknife steaks to Minneapolis' movers and shakers, Murray turned the reins of the 66-year-old institution over to his son, Tim.

The downtown Minneapolis restaurant and cocktail lounge will close July 30 and reopen on Sept. 4. Co-owner Tim Murray told the Downtown Journal furniture, carpet and drapes will all be updated during the five-week renovation. The project will also focus on adding more seats by improving the bar and restaurant layout. Murray's Restaurant opened in 1946.
