As part of a story on the comeback of tomboy fashions, CNN profiles Minneapolis working mom Katherine McMillan, who prefers casual shoes typically made for men – desert boots, moccasins, chukkas.

She got so fed up with frilly women's shoe fashions that she started making her own and launched the company Mrs. P Hicks.

"It's tomboy style, but that doesn't mean it's not feminine or sexy," McMillan told CNN.

Minnesota Monthly noted that McMillan also founded the neckwear company Pierrepont Hicks. The neckties and bowties have developed a cult following since the company launched in 2009 and quickly generated a fashion industry buzz.

(The company even designed a woodgrain-pattern necktie specially made for the Walker Art Museum gift shop.)
