Minnesota breweries take home medals at World Beer Cup


Cheers! Five Minnesota breweries won awards at the World Beer Cup last weekend.

The World Beer Cup is held every two years by the Brewers Association, which is the largest organization of brewers in the United States.

This year's competition, which was held in Denver, Colorado, included 94 styles of beer from 1,403 breweries from 58 different counties, according to the cup's website.

Here's a look at the local winners:


– New Ulm's August Schell Brewing's Firebrick in the Vienna-style lager category (there were 39 entries)

– St. Louis Park's Steel Toe Brewing's Wee Heavy in the Scotch ale category (there were 47 entries)


– Minneapolis' Northbound Smokehouse and Brewpub's Snownami Chocolate/Raspberry Imperial Stout in the chocolate beer category (there were 51 entries)

– St. Paul's Summit Brewing Co.'s Extra Pale Ale in the classic English-style pale ale category (there were 30 entries)

– Duluth's Canal Park Brewing Co.'s Nut Hatchet Brown in the English-style brown ale category (there were 49 entries)


– August Schell's Framboise du Nord in the German-style sour ale category (there were 40 entries)
