Minnesota cop hurt, man dead after early morning hotel shooting

The city of Mankato says one of its police officers shot a man to death at a local hotel early Saturday morning.

According to a press release received by GoMN, the officer was responding to a "disturbance" at the Mankato Country Inn & Suites, where there was a confrontation with a "single white male." The person was shot during the ensuing altercation, and died despite lifesaving efforts.

The officer had to be treated for injuries at Mayo Clinic, but was eventually discharged, the news release says.

It's not yet clear what sparked the altercation, and the people involved have not been identified. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the incident now.
