A Minnesota couple and their three young children were killed in a fiery crash on a Nebraska highway Sunday afternoon.
The multiple-vehicle crash happened Sunday on westbound Interstate 80, near Brule, Nebraska, the Nebraska State Patrol said Monday.
The crash killed Jamison Pals and his wife Kathryne Pals, who were both 29, and the couple's three children: 3-year-old Ezra, 23-month-old Violet and 2-month-old Calvin.
Jamison Pals had previously worked with Feed My Starving Children, the organization confirmed on Facebook, saying it is "deeply saddened by the tragic loss" of the "amazing family."
Friends and loved ones have also been posting memories and condolences on Facebook.
Truck driver arrested
The State Patrol's investigation indicates a semi traveling westbound hit the rear of the Pals' minivan. The force of the crash pushed the semi and the minivan into three other vehicles, all traveling westbound.
The semi and the Pals' van were "engulfed in flames," the release says.
The driver of the semi, a 53-year-old Florida man, was treated and released from the hospital before being arrested in connection to the crash. He was booked into jail on five counts of felony motor vehicle homicide charges, the State Patrol says.
Six people in the three other vehicles were also injured in the crash.
The crash closed 10 miles of the interstate for approximately six hours.
