Fugitive sex offender caught in cornfield, accomplice still at large

A Level 3 sex offender from northwest Minnesota who allegedly cut off his tracking bracelet Tuesday morning was captured in a cornfield.

Corey Roper, 22, of Thief River Falls was released from prison earlier this month. He was convicted of engaging in sexual conduct with a girl under the age of 14.

Police say Roper and 21-year-old Dylan Klode, also from Thief River Falls, are believed to have stolen a motorhome.

A manhunt was launched Tuesday morning after authorities in Steele County, North Dakota located an RV that was reported stolen from Thief River Falls, the Fargo Forum said.

Steele County Sheriff Wayne Beckman told the newspaper that deputies later spotted two men walking. When approached, they fled into a cornfield.

Valley News Live said officers caught up with Roper and took him into custody around noon, but Klode remains at large.

Around 6 a.m. Wednesday, Beckman said a car was reported stolen from a nearby farmstead. Authorities believe Klode may have the vehicle.

The suspect is described as 5 feet 11 inches tall, 150 pounds with short black hair. He was last seen wearing a white tank top, blue jeans and wasn't wearing any shoes.

The stolen vehicle is described a 2006, red, four-door Pontiac G6 with North Dakota license plates JBK-184.
