Minnesota will this fall get its second Cheesecake Factory, adding to the one currently at the Southdale Center in Edina.

The national chain, which has more than 190 outlets nationally, confirmed on Monday it will open its second location in the state at the Ridgedale Center in Minnetonka.

The announcement had been long expected, with the Business Journal reporting earlier this year the company submitted a proposal for an 8,400 square foot venue.

The chain has built up a reputation for belt-busting desserts, with more than 30 signature cheesecakes among the 250-plus items on its menu, with others including pizzas, salads, sandwiches, pastas and steaks.

It started as a small cheesecake shop in 1940s Detroit, founded by Evelyn Overton whose "Original Cheesecake" was inspired by a recipe in a local newspaper.

In its news release, the Cheesecake Factory confirms the Ridgedale location will include an outdoor patio, with the unit located on the upper floor of the mall next to its east entrance.

Ridgedale Center senior manager Joan Suko said the Cheesecake Factory "perfectly complements our ever-growing retail and restaurant mix." It comes after a period of years in which the mall has invested heavily in upgrades, welcoming new tenants including Nordstrom to the shopping center.

No official opening date has yet been announced, only that the doors will open this fall.
