Minnesota Horse and Hunt Club clubhouse lost to fire

No one was hurt and no animals were injured when the clubhouse at the Minnesota Horse and Hunt Club in Prior Lake burned to the ground Tuesday morning.

There were no people in the building at the time the fire broke out and the club’s kennels and stables are located far enough away from the clubhouse that there was no damage to those structures, the Star Tribune reports.

The blaze was first reported at 6:20 a.m. and by early afternoon, all that was left of the 10,000-square-foot, two-story building were a pair of stone chimneys and part of a wall, the Star Tribune reports.

The cause of the fire remains unclear as the state fire marshal investigates, but Sheriff Kevin Studnicka said it did not appear to be suspicious, the Prior Lake American reported.

There were no fire hydrants near the building, so firefighters from Prior Lake and nearby communities trucked in water to fight the fire, the Pioneer Press reports.

A New Year's Eve event at Trigger's bar and restaurant in the clubhouse was canceled. But hunt club officials on the club's website said shooting events will resume Thursday and they still planned to hold the state pheasant hunting championship Jan. 4 and 5.

From the website: "It’s a sad day for all associated with the Club, but rest assured that we will rise like the mythical phoenix from the ashes to be better than ever. The good news is that nobody was injured."

There are more photos from the fire on the club's Facebook page. KARE 11 has more images, too.

The 600-acre, 1,000-member club boasts that it is "the premier shooting sports venue in North America," and hosts major shotgun sporting and hunting events throughout the year.

“I’ve been here 39 years, you’re talking all of our mounts, our memories, all the events we’ve hosted over the years [lost],” general manager Terry Correll told WCCO. “We’ve been a big part of sporting clay history.”

The Prior Lake American posted this video to YouTube after the blaze:
