Senate committee to consider amendment to move fishing opener

House lawmakers have already passed a large game and fish bill that includes an amendment allowing anglers to begin the fishing season a week early this year. The Senate Environment and Natural Resources Committee will hold a hearing Monday morning. Because of the warm spring weather, the DNR says it doesn't have any concerns with moving it to May 5.

Senate could vote on invasive-species boating proposal this weekend

The bill allows the DNR to setup inspection stations and issue tougher fines to help prevent the spread of aquatic invasive-species. Minnesota's 800,000 boaters would also be required to pass a training course. House lawmakers okayed the legislation Friday and Senators could vote on it this weekend.

Senators approve bill to establish board to oversee school trust land

The 16-member legislative-citizen panel would recommend policies to raise more money from the 2.5 million acres of school trust lands in northern Minnesota. Critics who want the DNR to continue to manage the lands are concerned the change would leave the land vulnerable to degradation. The House has passed a similar measure.

House lawmakers say Vikings stadium bill could get a hearing next week

MPR reports Republican Rep. Joe Hoppe indicated behind-the-scenes negotiations are making progress. Hoppe chairs the House Commerce Committee. The stadium bill stalled in a Senate hearing in early March. Meanwhile, Minneapolis City Council members who oppose the stadium bill plan to hold public hearings on the proposal.
