Minnesota jobless rate unchanged at 5.8 percent


The Minnesota unemployment rate did not change, remaining at a seasonally adjusted 5.8 percent in October, according to figures released Friday by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED), the Associated Press reported.

The jobless figure remained well behind the U.S. rate of 7.9 percent in October.

Employers in Minnesota cut 2,000 jobs last month, according to state labor officials with the Department of Employment and Economic Development. The Star Tribune reports, the state's unemployment rate went up one-tenth of a point from July to 5.9 percent. The national jobless figure was 8.1 percent in August.
