Minnesota man dies after losing control of ATV

A 53-year-old man has died after crashing an ATV in St. Louis County.

The sheriff's department says they found Frank Kalata in Clinton Township Friday evening, according to KBJR 6. He suffered severe head injuries and was airlifted to Essentia-St.Mary's Hospital in Duluth where he was pronounced dead. The sheriff's department says he was not wearing a helmet.

Officials believe Kalata was an inexperienced driver. They say he was probably going too fast, lost control of the vehicle and rolled it, WCCO reports.

The sheriff's department says alcohol may have been involved. The accident is under investigation.

Thirteen people died in ATV accidents last year in Minnesota, The Department of Natural Resources reports.
