Jesting 'so gay' photo goes viral

A hastily shot photo from a same-sex marriage rally in St. Paul earlier this week is drawing national attention, the Pioneer Press reports.

At a Capitol rally Monday to celebrate the Senate vote on a new law that legalized gay marriage, Minnesotans United volunteer Juan Carlos Rodriguez held a handmade sign that read "Your pink sign is so gay," the newspaper reports. It was a jesting jab at pink-sign carrying protesters who opposed the gay marriage law.

Laura Thompson and her partner Sara Leszcynski loved the sign, and Thompson borrowed it from Rodriguez so that Leszcynski could snap a few shots – with the pink-sign protesters in the foreground.

The pics quickly went viral, thanks in large part to George Takei, the gay actor who played Sulu on the Star Trek television series, whose biting sense of humor has drawn a huge social media following. Takei posted the image to his Facebook page, with the caption, "Epic photobomb win in MN." The photo drew more than 140,000 likes and nearly 25,000 shares.
