Minnesota teen dies 11 days after collapsing at football practice

Chris Fischer was going into his freshman year at Austin High School.

A 14-year-old Minnesota boy died 11 days after collapsing at football practice.

Chris Fischer, of Austin, had a medical emergency at practice on Aug. 22 and died Saturday morning at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, according to his CaringBridge page

He died "due to complications from cardiac arrest," his obituary says

"It is up to the rest of us to live life to the fullest in order to fill the void that we will all feel because we knew and loved Chris," his mom wrote on CaringBridge.

Fischer would have been a freshman at Austin High School, with his mom noting that Fischer was anticipating the start of high school and high school sports.

The family is still making funeral arrangements, and the school says it will provide additional support for students on Tuesday – the first day of school, ABC 6 reports

Some have taken to social media to remember Fischer, including a former teacher who said Fischer was "one of the most respectful, insightful and king young men I've ever encountered."
